Privacy at Rumbots

A clear look at what this playtest does—and what its hosting services may process.

Last updated: 2026-10-29

This notice describes the current Rumbots online browser playtest.

Anonymous multiplayer sessions

Online play sends movement inputs, your selected robot style, and a temporary random session token to the game server. The server generates a funny name and shares your robot position, actions, health, and match score with others in the room. No name-entry field, account, email address, or public chat is provided.

Live matches run on a dedicated game server with room state held in memory. A database-backed fallback stores hashed session tokens. Session identifiers stay in browser memory. Invite links contain random room and friend-group identifiers so friends can join the same arena and recognize one another. Anyone with an invite link can use it; it does not grant access to an account. Reloading creates a new anonymous player session.

Session and room cleanup

Disconnected live players are removed when their connection closes, and empty live rooms are removed from memory. Restarting the live server resets its rooms. In the database fallback, inactive sessions stop occupying a human slot after about 30 seconds. Later join requests delete expired session rows and room records that have been inactive for more than 30 minutes. This is request-driven cleanup, so records can remain until another join request performs it. Closing a tab sends a best-effort leave request; interrupted connections use the inactivity timeout.

Analytics, advertising, and device permissions

We have not added advertising networks, third-party analytics trackers, payments, public chat, or email-signup forms. The game does not request camera, microphone, or location access. Rumbots does not set advertising cookies or use local storage for permanent player profiles.

Hosting and technical request information

Hosting and security service providers deliver and protect the website. These infrastructure providers may process IP addresses, request times, browser information, requested URLs, security events, and essential service cookies. Their processing and retention depend on their services and policies; this notice does not promise that provider logs are absent or kept for a particular period.

Your choices

You can leave by closing the game tab. Your browser’s privacy controls manage browser data and permissions. Do not submit sensitive information through informal feedback channels. Requests about information held by an infrastructure provider should use its published privacy process.
